My husband and I are about to celebrate our 13-year anniversary. Around this time each year I find myself not only reflecting over the past year but over our marriage as a whole. I think back to how far we’ve come, and what challenges we’ve faced. And as I’m sure many of you do, I  wonder what may be in store for us in the future.

Well, last Tuesday I was trying to catch up on all my Instagram and Facebook updates, and I saw a very simple but power imagine that simply stated, “Pray for your hubby.”

Reading this stopped me in my tracks. When was the last time I had prayed for my husband?

I am constantly talking to my kids about the importance of prayer, the difference between prayers, and why we pray. Every night we read our devotionals and have a brief discuss about it before closing in prayer. But imagine, this short statement had me feeling slightly ashamed of myself. Here I am praying for everything and everyone, but my husband.

Of course, during health scares he’d be covered in prayers. And when financial difficulties have hit our family we came together and called upon the Lord, but I can honestly say that I do not pray for him or our marriage as I should. This one statement was a great reminder of not only our need to pray for each other, but also for our relationship.

My husband is someone I have always been able to turn to. As his wife I want to do the same for him by asking the Lord to strengthen him when needed, provide him with understand when things are unclear, and to show him mercy and fill him with peace when he lost.

Here are some great scriptures to reflect on:

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking  James 1:5

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life  Proverbs 4:23

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them  Romans 8:28

Lord, we know that we all need prayer in our life. Help us to remember that we should not only bring our loved ones to you during their storms but in every moment. God, our relationship with our spouse is a precious gift you have given us. Help us to watch over it, care for it, and pray for it so that we may see it grow and flourish under Your great love. -Amen
