I am a bibliophile through and through. Something about books just makes me happy. When I was a young girl they were my escape from the everyday. In them I was able to travel to new worlds where I could be fearless. Anything was possible. I believe that feeling still resides at the heart of why I just can’t get enough of the written word.
Even the simple act of someone recommending a book can be as exhilarating for me as discovering it on my own. The process of searching for it, learning about the author and how the story came to be brings me such pleasure. Like a treasure hunter stumbling upon a city of gold.

So it’s no surprise that I share this love with my girls. Their homeschool curriculum is strongly guided by literature. Because children learn through stories. Need proof, thinking back to the earliest story you can remember being told or read as a child. What was it about? How did it make you feel? What did you learn from it? You see a good story is one that stays with you long after you have closed it.
I feel this calling so profoundly, to read and share books. The only things that come before it is my faith and family (which is as it should be). So when I discovered I could set up a little free library of my own and share with my neighbors the love of books. Well, it just made perfect sense.
To my great joy and delight we were finally able to set it up this past April. And I cannot say this enough, everything; the cost, planning, and gathering of books was worth it. We’ve met neighbors (at a safe distance) that I may not have known otherwise. My girls have even discovered the joy of sharing books through this experience. Every time they see someone passing by they hope they’ll stop and check out a book or two.

Though you may not have a love for books, think about what makes you smile. What activities or hobbies do you get excited about? Because chances are you’re not alone. Find a way to share your talents and passions with others. Let’s bring the joys of music, crocheting, gardening, baking, etc. back to a world in need of distractions and connections.
