I love witnessing the changes from season to season. There’s something about it. As if new things are being welcome in. Hollywood has portrayed California (my home) very one sided, but there’s so much more than most people realize. It is a very diverse place to live when it comes to its topography and climate. The mountains just north of my home have never failed loaning its’ snow covered self during the Christmas holiday, nor have the beaches to the west when greeting summer breezes.
Yet when the Bible speaks of seasons
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.. Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV

God uses this wonderful analogy to illustrate life. If you have lived any amount of time on this earth, then you have experienced its ever changing ways first hand. Beautiful moments full of laughter and joy; your first love, to the birth of a child. But many people, myself included, can hear this verse and associate it solo with the painful moments. The ones that brought us to our knees. Shake us to our core. Does this sound familiar, does it hit home for you?
Those moments in time seem to have an unreal feel. Like time stands still as your feelings of pain, grief, and angry wash over you. I’ve been there, but then so has God. In those moments when my heart felt like it was breaking He embraced me and held me together.
Be strong and of good courage! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT

In a number of ways we’ve already seen or heard of acts of love and kindness that we may not have if it wasn’t for this current season. A side of humanity at its finest has been revealed. This is evidence that there is still hope. We simply need to redirect where we’re choosing to look. Backwards or upwards. To a past of losses, or a future of promises. We can’t control the changes from season to season. But we can choose to have joy in any season.
