As a ‘fast food’ generation, we struggle when it comes to waiting…for just about anything. So it’s not surprising that we have trouble waiting on our God and His perfect timing.

In my household, it’s a running joke to call me ‘patient.’ Whether it’s cleaning the house, to making sure everyone’s homework is done before dinner, things just don’t seem to move fast enough. I know as a parent I don’t stand alone when it comes to wishing things around the house would just magically get done with a snap of my fingers. There are seriously days where I feel more like one of those mice scientist watch running through a maze in search for a small piece of cheese.

So it’s clear to me that our daily routines can take a toll. So if your family time feels more like you’re just punching a time card, then that’s your sign to take a step back. Let’s stop wishing away the hours spent at the doctor’s office, or rushing to get each kid to their practice and performances. We are so busy getting things done that we don’t leave ourselves no time to enjoy ourselves, let alone learn the lesson God is trying to teach us.

If you’ve seen the movie, Click starring Adam Sandler as a husband and father looking just to fast forward past all the exhausting and uncomfortable moments in live. Can you relate? Well, he gets the opportunity to do just that when he discovers a remote control that allows him to control time. At first this remote seems like a gift. Arguments with his wife are quickly over with a single click. Kids getting too loud, easy just mute them. And in the blink of an eye he has seemed to fast forward through all of his life. He realizes that all moments in life are precious.

So if your facing times of trouble, or are simply pulling your hair out over your spouse inability to pick up their socks remember that nothing happens by accident. God has a reason for exposing us to each experience and challenge we face. Every situation has to potential to teach us something new, or it can be a missed opportunity.

God help us remember that everything happens in your perfect timing. Let us give up that need for control and allow us to see what you have in store for us is better than anything we could ask for. Help us to understand and be at peace with your will, whether your answer is yes, no, or wait. -Amen
