For us, the countdown to spring break is in full effect. And as excited as I am at the idea of sleeping in, and no homework, test, or projects looming over us I don’t just want to bum it the whole time. Of course, I’ll have a day or two of doing absolutely nothing, which will be fantastic, but then I’ll be itching to get out. Because when I think of spring break, I think of making plans to get outdoors with my family.
- Beach Trip- Even if the weather isn’t quite warm enough to get into the water where you are, you can still have fun. Play in the sand, go on a hunt for sea shells or play volleyball with the kids.
- Park Days- Invite family and friends to join you and the kids at your favorite park. Make a light lunch and pack a ton of snacks and drinks so you can stay out as long as everyone is having fun.
- Hiking- Check out the local trails and get your excuse on along side your family. With comfortable shoes, sunblock, and plenty of water the day’s soundtrack will be provided by nature.
- Road Trip- Many of us have loved ones that live towns or states away, so why not plan a little visit. See what their town has to offer while also discovering what their favorite hangouts are.
- Go Fishing- I have many memories out on the water with my father, and they are some of my favorites. Teach your kids how to fish (and if needed learn yourself). Spending time together in a peaceful silence is also a valuable skill they’ll learn as well. And it can be a relief for parents to see this practiced.
- Camp Out- Whether you choose a tent, RV, or cabin camping is a great family activity. No cell service will force your kids to get creative and get outside with you right beside them.
- Try Something New- If every spring you feel stuck doing the same old things, then it’s time to shake things up. Horseback riding or water skiing can be a great idea for families with older children. Or your kids can join a short term spring activity sponsored by your city. Let’s face it; sometimes they are more willing to try sometime new if it doesn’t seem like a huge commitment.
- Enjoy The Simple Things- Go fly a kite, have a nerf war, or bike/skate around town. Remember every day doesn’t have to be some big, extravagant outing. Just spending time together playing or discovering the best pizza place in your area can be just as memorable.
