Recently, California Science Center announced that it would be having a special exhibit featuring Pixar Behind the Scene exhibition. The point of the presentation is to provide visits with a look at what it takes to make an animated film. This will provide onlookers with an understanding of how science, technology, engineering, and math are used by the artists to create these memorable movies. Of course, I was thrilled and immediately looked up dates and prices. If you are in the area, I suggest this is a family outing you don’t want to miss https://californiasciencecenter.org/
Make the most of your outing.
California Science Center suggested it, and I agree. If you’re planning on going to the Pixar exhibit, buy your tickets ahead time. You’ll be able to plan your day so you can make to most of every moment. Another benefit is that you can see what packs they offer. We not only choose to see the exhibit, and the museum itself (which is free) but we added an IMAX experience. The center is currently offering three movies. We saw A Beautiful Planet 3D, and it perfectly continued our day at the museum.
The Pixar behind the scenes is located on the third floor of the museum and in two locations. First, you’ll start out watching a mini chip explaining the idea about this display. But once the double doors are open you’ll have many great photo opportunities around every corner. Life size characters, as well as get hands-on experiences i.e. Changing Jessie’s facial expression or creating lighting for Dory. The room is laid out in no particular order so pick a spot and work you way around.
After you’ve tried out a program or two and have taken your share of pictures there is a second area to explore. This open area overlooks the inside of the whole museum. There you’ll find more sculptures showing the work to takes to make a character frown. Alongside larger than life sketches of the evolution of a brave bug. From beginning to end the exhibit pulls back the veil providing viewers to see the heart and soul poured into a single scene.
Once your ready to call that portion of your day you’ll pass through a small gift shop with Pixar only goodies. From backpacks to pillows, to coloring materials and clothing your day wouldn’t be complete without grabbing a little keepsake to remember the day.
Depending on how you schedule your day, you can choose to have your IMAX before you take part in the Pixar behind the scene. But I felt to was better for us as a family to have it be what closed out our day. Sitting in the comfort seats helping bring our kiddos energy level down, and provide hubby and me with an opportunity to kick up their feet (so to speak). I wasn’t initial sure if we’d do the IMAX thing, but I’m so glad we did. The movie (A Beautiful Planet) and the lesson it attempts to teach us. Using fantastic visuals from the international space station, it was well executed. Our youngest children loved the 3D effect and funny banter of the astronauts. And our eldest daughter was particularly moved by the imagines of our changing planet.

Overall Grade: A. The price was fairly reasonable considering our family size. And the fact that we choose to take part in the exhibit and IMAX experience. And it was perfect timing as our eldest daughter has been spending her free time drawing. She has a talent and is continually working on her craft. What better way to inspire a child than by allowing them to immerse themselves in their dream career. But you don’t need to be an artist to enjoy this event. So hurry it ends on April 16th
