With another school year quickly approaching I have found myself shopping around at a number of stores looking for the perfect school supplies. While most of the prices are fairly reasonable, I can’t help but be surprised at some back to school ads. I’m sure you’ve seen them. The ones (usually showing a mom) overjoyed to get her kids out of the house. Now I get where they’re coming from, but I don’t understand why that is the focus.
Our summer break hasn’t been without its share of tantrums and whining. But what do our kids think when ads like this are displayed in so many back to school sections?
Personally, I think all of us would be better off if ads focused more on the potential of our children rather than the reaction of some parents. We are raising the future presidents, healthcare providers, teachers, and parents. So why don’t we get excited for back to school because of that? There are new skills to learn. And old ones to be mastered. Our children may even discover what they’re passion is. This maybe the year they decide what they want to do for the rest of their life. We just don’t know what will be unlocked in our children this coming fall.
I don’t know about you, but these thoughts have me excited. And that’s what keeps me going from store to store search through every shelf. Not because the items themselves are of particular importance, but because of how they might be utilized.
No matter how much we may be ready to get back into a school routine let’s not allow advertisements like this represent us.
Hey there! Someone in my Google+ group shared
this site with us so I came to give it a look. I’m definitely enjoying the information. I’m book-marking and will be tweeting this to my
followers! Superb blog and outstanding design and style.
Keep up the really awesome work!
